Initial Oral Examination
Your initial oral examination includes a visual examination, charting, periodontal probing, diagnosis, and treatment recommendations. We will also take full mouth x-rays for proper diagnosis of anterior and posterior teeth as well as cavity detecting x-rays for proper diagnosis of proximal decay of posterior teeth.

Bonding
An alternative to veneers is a process called bonding, in which a tooth-colored material that looks like the enamel of your teeth is molded and shaped, and then hardened and polished.

Cosmetic Contouring
Teeth can become crooked, chipped, cracked, and even overlap as a result of many factors, including traumatic injury, bruxism (grinding) or even heredity. Cosmetic contouring, and reshaping procedures can remedy, and in many cases, greatly improve these conditions.

Crowns and Bridges
Crowns are synthetic caps, usually made of a material like porcelain, placed on the top of a tooth. Bridges are natural-looking dental appliances that can replace a section of missing teeth.

Cosmetic Fillings
Tooth-colored fillings that are light cured to match your teeth. Amalgam resorations can also be used to restore defects.

Implants
Implants are synthetic structures that integrate with the bone in the area normally occupied by the root. The implants act as an artificial tooth or bridge.

Veneers
In just two or three dental visits, a veneer can reverse years of stains caused by foods, caffeine, and tobacco use.

Whitening
Teeth bleaching products, which contain peroxides, which brighten your smile in seven to ten days.

Sealants
Technology today has produced sealants, which work by filling in the crevasses on the chewing surfaces of the teeth. This shuts out food particles that could get caught in the teeth, causing cavities.

Root Canal Therapy
Endodontic (or root canal) therapy can help prevent the loss of a tooth that results from injury to the dental pulp.

Scaling and Root Planing
Some cases of acute periodontal (gum) disease that do not respond to more conventional treatment and self-care such as flossing may require a special kind of cleaning called scaling and root planing.

Cosmetic Dentistry
People choose aesthetic dental procedures/surgery for various reasons-to repair a defect such as a malformed bite or crooked teeth, treat an injury, or just improve their overall appearance. Whatever the reason, the ultimate goal is to restore a beautiful smile.

Dentures
Dentures are designed to replace missing teeth and are worn by millions of Americans. Technological advancements have resulted in dentures that are lightweight and mimic the look and feel of natural teeth.

Here at Rolling Valley Dental we specialize in making Dentures that are customized to the patient.

How do dentures help me?

Dentures replace missing teeth that help you to:

  1. Eat and chew foods;

  2. Smile and aesthetics (your teeth support the lower one third of your face);

  3. Speak.

Having teeth again helps you to:

  1. Eat better, with a wider selection of foods;

  2. Increase confidence in your appearance;

  3. Pronounce words more clearly.

Types of dentures:

Dentures come in various types, each suitable for the needs of the individual patient.
If you are missing only some of your teeth, you can use a removable partial denture.

However, if you are missing all your teeth in either the upper jaw or lower jaw, then you will need :

  1. Conventional dentures
    or

  2. Implant dentures

Conventional Dentures

Conventional dentures would be the lowest cost option.

Conventional Denture Pros:

  • Allow you to smile, chew/eat, speak/pronounce.

  • Cost is lower compared to implant dentures.

Conventional Denture Cons:

  • Dentures may get come out during function.

  • It needs to be removed daily.

  • Lower chewing efficiency than implant dentures.

  • Bone loss occurs at a faster rate than implant dentures.

Implant dentures

Implant dentures come in two major categories:

  • Implant over dentures are where the dentures have a button embedded and it snaps on to the implants inside the jaw. This denture must be removed daily.

  • Or there are fixed hybrid dentures, usually called All on 4’s. This denture is screwed on to the implants (a minimum of four implants are needed) The patient does not have to remove the dentures once they are screwed in. This type of denture is the high-end option.

What are implants?

An implant is a screw that is placed inside the jaw bone used for anchoring crowns, bridges, and dentures. It acts as an attachment point for dentures. The implant is placed surgically and a recovery time of two to three months is usually required for the bone to heal around the implant.
Implant over dentures are dentures that snap on to the implant, with the button portion embedded inside the dentures. It is removed everyday to clean and the liner inside the button has to be replaced once to twice a year.

Implant Denture Pros:

  • Better retention than conventional dentures. Lower cost versus hybrid dentures.

Implant Denture Cons:

  • The denture button liner loosens over time, usually one to two times a year the button liner has to be replaced. Food sometime gets trapped beneath the dentures and it has to be remove for cleaning.

  • Cost of implant placement plus denture fabrication is more than conventional dentures.

  • Implant failures can cause the dentures not to fit.

Hybrid dentures

Hybrid dentures (i.e., All on 4’s) are the high-end dentures. More implants are placed than over dentures. Dentures are screwed in to the implant and do not need to be removed nightly. They can be made from acrylic or porcelain, although acrylic dentures are much easier to repair.

Hybrid Denture Pros:

  • Dentures do not need to be removed nightly. Since dentures are screwed in to the implant, they do not get dislodged from the mouth. Biting/chewing forces are greater than other dentures and they have superior aesthetics and feel natural.

Hybrid Denture Cons:

  • Price is higher due to more implants placed and denture fabrication costs. Implant failure can cause the denture not to fit. Food may get trapped between the gums and the denture and floss is needed to clean.

This patient was missing teeth in both his upper and lower jaws.  The upper jaw and implant was placed for an overdenture (button type), with a combination of metal clasps on his back teeth. The lower jaw was a removable partial denture with metal clasps the anchors to his remaining natural teeth. The clasps and the button anchors the dentures and keep them stable when chewing.
